£1800 and 6th place - not bad for an afternoon's work!!

After a couple of day's rest at home, we have resumed walking and blogging – have you missed us?

This morning I dropped the boys off at Tummel Bridge an extremely remote part of Scotland with a mobile home park and a Loch (and very little else).  Their mission today was to walk 23 miles to Milton taking in the A826 and A822.  If you have a recently printed map, you probably won't find Milton on there and as there was no signpost, we made one instead – photo to follow!

Although walking two ‘A' roads doesn't sound particularly exciting, the scenery again was beautiful and the boys even spotted an eagle en route.  They did however come across the town ‘Dull' which I understand from them does very little to defend the impression its name gives it.

‘H' was the letter of the day and topics included Hero's, Hard Men and Hollywood.  I think they're getting the hang of this debating malarkey as from one topic (Hero's) they came up with four sub-categories; Sport, Business, Politics and Music, which gave them at least a couple of hours of conversation.  Not surprisingly, Sir Ian Botham is much admired by them both, along with Sir Richard Branson, Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Queen and Elvis.  Quite a mixed bag!!  Vinnie Jones & John Prescott also got a mention but understandably fell into the Hard Men category.

I was reliably informed at the end of the day that knees and feet are beginning more and more to withstand the strains of the day.  We will make athletes of them both (don't laugh) and I'm certain Nick will lose more than 2lbs this time round!!

As you may know, part of the reason for us returning to the Midlands at the weekend was to attend the Aston Villa / Newcastle United game.  18 of us shook buckets all around the ground and managed to raise over £1800.00.  A huge thank you goes to:

George, Matt, Henry, Amelia, Will, Toby, Richard, Karen, Emily, Nick, Tracy, Mim, Tracey S, Vikki and the star of the show; Beryl.  It was a very brave man that didn't put his hand in his pocket when Beryl was requesting a donation.   A big thank you also to Sally, Alison and all the security and hospitality staff at Villa who made our job very easy.

So we have another 9 days walking ahead of us before we're home again but as of today, the boys have completed a total of 223 miles which represents an incredible 25% of their overall mileage.  There's just no stopping them!!
