Ribeye, Rioja & RooneyAfter the walk we had decided that our objective for the day was to watch the England football match with a good steak and a red bottle of wine. This proved to be our main motivation for the day as the weather was foul and Charlotte was away watching Take That. We left Levens Hall at 8.30 after a sleepless night at the Wheatsheaf in Beetham because the church clock chimed ever quarter of an hour. However, not to be deterred, we hit the road and walked firstly to Carnforth and round the coast of Morecombe Bay passing through Bolton-le-Sands en route. The rain started at noon and stayed until we finished walking at 4.00pm. Most of the afternoon was taken up walking around Lancaster which looked pretty unimpressive probably made worse by the torrential rain. We passed the University and ended the day in Galgate. We clocked 21 miles bringing the total to 438 which by any of the various measures of the total distance means we have reached the halfway mark. Today's discussion topics began with ‘S' and we majored on cool old cars and came up with the Lotus Sunbeam, Sierra Cosworth and Lancia Stratos. After the promised steak and red wine, we enjoyed the company of the local Bowls team in the Fleece Inn in Dolphineholme. We enjoyed their company and their generosity towards our collection however, special thanks must go to Sheila the nurse who did a whip round the rest of the pub and raised a fantastic amount. The fun for the evening was not over as at 1.30am the TV and bracketry in Nick's room inexplicably fell off the wall and smashed on the floor. This gave Nick a hell of a shock and also woke up Mike next door.
