Anyone remember Wigan Casino?

Today we have started our long trek down the A49 starting just south of Preston heading due south.  Last night we stayed at the Farington Lodge Hotel which was fantastic, the only place we have stayed in that has scored 10 out of 10 so far.  Special thanks to Sarah for looking after us.

Today the weather has been fine and dry and the road relatively flat with payments all the way so a great day for walking.  Having passed through Charnock Richard and Standish we hit the outskirts of Wigan just before lunch.  Those of you who are about the same age as Mike and me will remember the phenomena that was Wigan Casino.  Sadly, remembering the name was about as far as our memory got us so anyone who remembers any anecdotes about Wigan Casino, please post them on the message board.  Wigan proved relatively easy to navigate through and we stopped for lunch at Sainsbury's (no expense spared).  After a short stint, we passed through Newton-le-Willows and finished in Winwick.  Total mileage for the day was 22 miles over 6.5 hours walking time bringing the total to 480.

Thanks to Simon North for his suggestions on topics beginning with ‘U'.  We have an answer which we will share with you when you join us.  Today's discussion suggestions were uniforms / underwear, Utopia and U-boats.  It will surprise you to know that the longest conversation was about U-boats!!  We have some ideas for discussion subjects beginning with ‘V' for tomorrow so please let us have W's, X's and Y's for the weekend and Monday.
