Two plus four equals more!!
Tuesday evening was spent at the Unicorn pub in Ludlow where Mike's wife Tracey and Nick's cousin Diane and her husband Neil joined us. The evening was fantastic and the food lovely. The faggots and bangers and mash are to be highly recommended. The day didn't get off to a great start. Charlotte left at the crack of dawn to pick up Sally & Sarah, the Villa girls and then Nick Keegan and Andrew Hornigold. Things were going well until a plastic factory in Leominster exploded closing the A49 in the process. This was quite a problem as it stopped Charlotte getting the guest walkers back to us and was also on our route to walk. Meanwhile, Mike and Nick having spent a great night at Timberstone were kindly driven down to the start point by Alex. Many thanks to Tracey, Alex, Alfie & Jack (and the girls) for their kind hospitality and donation. So despite being overcast, we started walking at 8.30am and were joined after about 3 miles by the Villa girls. Shortly after, Nick (ex CompAir) and Andrew (of Pinsents) joined in the walk. We headed for Leominster and after a quick break in the ‘OK Diner' (fantastic) persuaded Leominster Constabulary to let us through the closed road. Nick explained we were en route to Lands End to which the officer stated we must be pillock's but gave us £1. The heavens then opened and remained so for the next three hours (fortunately the girls had brought a brolly but unfortunately it was with Charlotte in the truck 5 miles away) and Hereford Council continued with the strictly no footpath policy. We took a late lunch at the garden centre in Wellington and finished the final 5 miles in Hereford. We were extremely impressed at how the AVFC girls managed 20 miles and Nick & Andrew achieved 19 all with no complaints although we suspect they will feel sore tomorrow. The mileage for us was 23 miles bringing the total walked so far to 588. Tomorrow we will cross the 600 mile barrier as we head to Monmouth and hopefully enjoy some better weather. Thanks to Sarah, Sally, Nick and Andrew for joining us today, we really enjoyed their company.
