A day of milestones

Today we have reached 3 major milestones in our epic journey.  We have crossed the 750 mile barrier, we have now completed 90% of the walk and we have crossed over into the last county of Cornwall.  Before commenting on today, a few words that we forgot to mention yesterday.  Just as we had left Bow, we were joined by a runner called Ian who walked with us for a mile or so.  Ian has run 8 London Marathons for different charities and works for a homeless charity in Exeter.  He was a great guy and we were full of admiration for what he did.  Good luck in your future endeavours.

We started walking at 8.20am from Launceston and after a short stint through the outskirts of the town we joined our old favourite the A30 which we stayed on all day.  For those of you not familiar with the A 30 but who live in the Midlands, this is like walking along the A38 but not as interesting so we walked nose to tail down the 2 foot wide border on the edge of the dual carriageway so all perfectly legal but not very pleasant.  Halfway through the day, we thought our time was up when we had our first encounter with the police in 730 miles when a police car with lights flashing pulled over to talk to us.  The policeman asked us if we had broken down, when we said no, he said oh you're just going for a walk then.  He couldn't have been more helpful and we saw him later in the day in Launceston at our finish point where he gave us a kind donation.  Many thanks to PC Ken Dine.

We stopped for lunch at Dingles Steam Museum.  Late in the day, we crossed the River Tamar into Cornwall, our last county.  Tomorrow sees us back on the A30 heading from Launceston to Bodmin and this is our last big walking day with 21 miles to complete.  After that the mileage is gradually reduced through to the end.  So we are still on track, we are getting near the end but we are feeling pretty tired and in need of your messages so please send us your comments to keep us going over the last 5 days.
