| I heard through the grapevine that you were doing something stupid. At first, I thought you''d gone back to work for CompAir, but then I found out that you''d decided to walk the length of Britain instead. Probably slightly less arduous and less dangerous than running a business just at the moment!!! All I can say is, very, very well done on your achievement. A truly superb effort and the good causes you have helped will be eternally grateful. There''ll be a cheque on the post in due course!!! |

| Phew what a relief! I've got blisters on my finger, logging on umpteen times to make sure you got there! Wonderful to see your happy smiling faces!
For two allegedly "Not-so-Fit" guys you should be PROUD. ( But the Fellrunner says, you'll be waking up for a few nights yet, lads, with those legs still going ... )
And a BIG Bouquet for Charlotte. I was amazed to see the Back Up Team was just ONE person! Well done Charlotte you deserve that job you always wanted... |

| It was a pleasure joining you yesterday for the 17 miles through the beautiful Wye Valley from Monmouth to Chepstow. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the chat; not least the football and pop quizes (p.s. what''s Poly Styrene''s real name?) and Dean''s (from Lloyds) amazing knowledge of the Olympics. 17 miles was tough enough but hats off to Nick and Mike who have now clocked up 624!! With circa 220 to go, I''ve no doubt that you''ll make Land''s End on schedule for a fantastic achievement for 4 great causes made all the more possible by Charlotte''s excellent organisation and support. | Thanks for a very entertaining day yesterday – I really admire what you are doing and the thought of keeping that pace and distance up for 42+ days is really inspiring (and exhausting). I learned a few things on the way: 1) My old comp wouldn’t have stood a chance against Nick’s in a playground battle – even with the Frimley Boot Boys, 2) I know why there are so few Ferrari Testarossa's on the road – they are still warming up in the garage, 3) Even after a long hill I can still accelerate pretty quickly when coming eyeball to eyeball with a Rottweiler , 4) 19 miles feels a long way even when pretty fit, 5) You don’t need hi-tech navigation equipment for the JOGLE – a few pages from a 2002 road atlas with a scale of 1 small finger = a couple of hours is perfectly adequate, and 6) Beer and flapjack taste fantastic.
I hope it goes well for the rest of the adventure– I know you’ll make it and raise lots of money for four worthy causes. I hope your legs and feet make it too! 607 miles – wow!!! |

I have been away in Montenegro sunning myself for about a 10 days with Gail and 4 friends and we had a great time - did think of you periodically on how the heck you would cope with a walk in the 80s and I have now found out by tracking you down. You are making great progress and it seems that I shall have to part with my £100. Well deserved. Spoke to Doug the other day and he mentioned that we ought to fix up to go out for a beer and dinner when you get back so I can then ceremoniously hand over the cheque!
Take care and be safe!

The chat really did help to eat up the miles and amazingly I still don't feel too many aches (- tomorrow morning may be a different story!)
Thanks Charlotte for all the thoughtful help, organisation and for ferrying us to and from our cars etc.
Good luck for the final push Nick and Mike - just think of that reception when you march into Lands End!

| Dear Mike And Nick
Thought you might appreciate this little ode
The Londoner
A Londoner parks his brand new Ferrari in front of the office to show it off to his colleagues. As he's getting out of the car, a lorry comes speeding along too close to the kerb and takes off the door before zooming off.
More than a little distraught, the Londoner grabs his mobile and
calls the police.
Five minutes later, the police arrive. Before the policeman has a chance to ask any questions, the man starts screaming hysterically: ''My Ferrari, my beautiful silver Ferrari is ruined. No matter how long it's at the panel beaters it'll simply never be the same again!''
After the man finally finishes his rant, the policeman shakes his head in disgust. ''I can't believe how materialistic you Londoners are,'' he says. ''You lot are so focused on your possessions that you don't notice anything else in your life.''
''How can you say such a thing at a time like this?'' sobs the Ferrari owner.
The policeman replies, ''Didn't you realise that your right arm was torn off when the truck hit you.''
The Londoner looks down in horror. ''Bleep Bleep!'' he screams........
''Where's my Rolex????...''
See you between Halberton and Crediton

| Hi, (not so) Mighty Mike, you're disappearing!! hope you didn't have too many problems with ''q''s'' today (!) Well, guys, I guess this means you are going all the way and what absolute stars you are! Tracey tells me the house is bombed after the weekend and she's snowed under. I sense a bid for a holiday looming, Mikey, when you return, and just a tad of dog walking! What a doddle... Craig keeps moaning about his weight and lack of exercise, I guess you will be able to give him some tips. he's planning a no - beer spell (excluding Fridays!) perhaps he's panicking about how you're gonna look when you get back! I have a feeling the no beer rule will end after 4 July. We're getting the patio spruced up at present, so will be a suitable venue for the Bubbles day - only the best now for my hero! Look after those tootsies: You can do it, there's no doubt now and focus on the quad bikes, queens, Quadrophenia, quiches, Queensland and ******! love you loads, Ally x |

| Nick & Mike,
Congratulations of your epic trip. I discovered your website today and will follow your progress with great interest. I, too, plan to hike the End to End starting May 1 next year. I also will travel Jogle. I am tenting it down and will do some of the major trails ie, Great Glen Way, WHW, Pennine Way etc. I note you are doing a more saner direct route and I am very impressed with your rate of progress. I'm 63, running every day and weight training but plan to do it in 60 days - I think your 45 day schedule is amazing and for guys who profess not to be too athletic! Forget that buddy .... you ARE athletes!
I have been in Retford, England the last seven months caring for my ageing parents but left last Monday, June 1, to return to St. John's, Newfoundland where I live. I was conjecturing in the ten days or so before leaving England if there were End to Enders beginning their walk. I knew the warm weather would be a challenge. Still, I think I'd rather have that than driving rain and cold. I have often seen photos of hikers at the beginning and finish of the journey and the svelteness and fitness shines out in the completion photo. I can see already a change in body image for both of you! Well done. Keep it up and love to read of the interesting conversations you have with each other. Best wishes for your fund raising effort also. Cheers, Chris Wright. |

So a nice little question which we have just set for 14 year olds in a Maths Challenge:
How many triangles are there of perimeter 20 with each side having a whole number length. I''ll give you one of them - the triangle with sides 4,7 and 9!
Keep walking while you are thinking!

| questions:
Internet one is easy - Tim Berners-Lee. Indian sports stars is tougher. I could only think of four. Two tennis players - Vijay Armitraj who also appeared in a Bond film and Leander Paes who won a few Grand Slam mixed doubles championships. Does chess count? If so then Vis Anand is another. Then there''s the racing driver Narain Karthikeyan. After that I''m afraid I''m stumped. |

How do you start a pudding race - "Sago"
How do you start a cheese race - "Caerphilly"
How do you start a bear race - "Ready Teddy Go"
Cathy says I should also include a Scottish Joke. Best I could do was Mr. G. Brown.
Here''s a possible discussion topic for old people who remember LPs etc - what are the top 5 side 1 track 1s? {Keiron has never read or seen "High Fidelity" - Cathy}
Mine might be
Thunder Road (Bruce Springsteen)
Badlands (Bruce Springsteen)
Watcher of the Skies (Genesis)
Rose of Cimmaron (Poco)
The River (Bruce Springsteen)

Looking forward to joining you on a leg either 23rd or 24th June, although not sure I''ll keep up after a week in Spain drinking too much San Miguel. I read the worst car debate with interest. I once owned an orange Morris Marina with a steering wheel the size of a polo mint and peeling fabric roof. Keep the reports coming, it''s good to hear how you''re getting on! |
